BIOGRAPHY

Maria Vatenina is a Russian born composer currently based in Paris.

Born in St-Petersburg, Russia, Maria studied composition and music theory at the Rimsky- Korsakov State Conservatory with Russian composer Sergey Slonimsky.

 

In 2001 Maria moved to London where she continued her studies.

She was awarded the Joseph Clover Award by the Royal College of Music, London, where she earned her Postgraduate Diploma in Composition while studying Composition for Screen .

She was later granted a Heddie Simpson Award scholarship and continued her studies of Film Music at the Master Degree level. She graduated in July 2008. In 2016 Maria has moved to Paris.

Born into an artistic family, Maria was destined to follow in the family's footsteps. The daughter of a painter - Valery Vatenin, Maria was raised in the bohemian St-Petersburg circles. Surrounded by artists, critics, musicians and filmmakers since her early age, Maria has always shown a great interest in many different forms of art, especially cinema and painting.

She has composed music for a number of films, animation, theatrical plays, multimedia shows. Her collaborations include Middlesex University, London Film School and National Gallery.

In 2015, together with award-winning visual artist Izabela Barszcz Maria has formed De_Montage Art Collective, an interdisciplinary group of artists.

Their first opera - Mannequin was created for soprano Heloise Werner and was premiered at Tete à Tete Opera Festival in July 2015.
